McGhee in the Gloaming – the Backstory

This blog explains some of the material in the book and provides historical context for those curious about its origins. While it is fictionalized, many of the events depicted actually occurred. Just to be clear, I am NOT McGhee, and he is NOT me. That said, I suspect I wrote that as much for myself as anyone.

In case you haven’t read the novel, it consists of 24 chapters which relate episodes from a man’s life named McGhee. The chapter order isn’t chronological, but does build into a portrait of a man searching for something. In the course of his travels, McGhee meets many strangers and from these encounters grows to learn truths about himself. That’s the idea, anyway.
